throwing it back to the honeymoon

July 10, 2014

Ben and I had just the best time on our honeymoon exploring around Playa del Carmen. We went to the most beautiful beaches, rode around on scooters, saw lizards I would never like to see again, ate an embarrassing amount of chips and guac, and ate at some of the most delicious restaurants we have ever been to. Oh what I would do to be back. But for now, watching this little video we made will have to suffice.

Bled

September 16, 2015

A few months ago, I stumbled across an image of a beautiful lake with a church on an island in the middle. Hannah (Ben’s sister) and I sent it back and forth to each other with either the heart eyed emoji or a “WE MUST GO” text. I can’t believe a few months later I actually got to travel to Lake Bled in Slovenia. It was just as beautiful as the picture.

We didn’t think Ben was going to arrive until a few days later from hiking in the Dolomites, but lucky for me he finished early and he made his way to Slovenia! We spent the evening exchanging travel stories and walking around the little town. The weather the following day was beautiful. Our morning began with a run around the lake, which quickly became a favorite route to take. The path hugs the lake and offers the most scenic views of the castle, island, and surrounding mountains. After, we showered up and packed a picnic for two. Our picnic spot of the day was right in the middle of the lake. We (well, Ben) paddled our little row boat right to the center and we enjoyed a perfect picnic. So dreamy, right?!bled-3

Honestly, what girl doesn’t want to be rowed around on the most darling boat by her husband?bled-10 bled-11

We became masters of picnicking on this trip.

After lunch we continued on to the little island, parked the boat, and climbed up to check out the church as well as the views.

Then, we climbed back down and I decided to be useful and giving the rowing a go!

After returning our charming little boat we plopped down on a nice piece of grass and read our books for the longest of times. A dream come true really. Especially when Ben is always keen to let me use him has a pillow. There aren’t loads of restaurants in town, but we decided to give one of the pizza places a go that evening. Delicious! bled-28bled-29

After we decided to go back to our favorite wine man! The night before we had a glass there during our story telling time and I fell in love with the wine man. He looks like he should have been one of the characters in the Guess Who game and I mean that in the most kind way. We promised him the night before we would be back and we don’t break our promises. Oh, and we ate cake. bled-30 bled-31

Day number 3! We walked towards Vintgar Gorge passing through the little towns filled with storybook cottages and views. A detour in search of cash for the park entry fee (oops) led us through the bustling metropolis of Podhom, Slovenia.  Beautiful views!
bled-32 bled-35 bled-36bled-39

On our way back we hiked up to catch a glimpse of the castle as well as the view of the lake from above. Our standard picnic took place at a bench near the castle before we set out to find the a hammock spot. The perfect two trees right near the island were calling our names. bled-40 bled-41 bled-42 Perfection.

While we sat in our hammock reading, chatting, and napping our photos were probably taken a hundred times. Apparently Eno hasn’t made it to Eastern Europe yet.

After a few more chapters and maybe a few more naps Ben went for a dip in the Lake. I was rather jealous!bled-51 bled-53

Later in the evening we packed our hammock up and strolled back to the hostel to make some dinner and maybe watch an episode (or two) of Bloodline. A grand day indeed.

The next day was scooter day! Just reliving our honeymoon glory days! We scooted our way around the town (at 25 km/hr, woo!) and onto the Vintgar Gorge because we could simply not be bothered to have a repeat of the day before. As you can tell from the image below, my arm can only reach so far with the camera around my neck and holding onto the scooter. Ben insists that safety comes first, even when the scooter needed some Fred Flintstone-esque encouragement at times.

I give you the long awaited Vintgar Gorge! It truly was beautiful, and well worth the wait. Such crystal clear water and vibrant greens everywhere. My apologies that you now must scroll through about a million pictures of this beautiful place (and that is only about half of the pictures I snapped!)

You guessed it! Picnic time! Standard two sandwiches for Ben, one for myself, two apples, bottle of water to share, and maybe some dark chocolate.

On to Monday, but Monday doesn’t really count. Why, you ask? It down poured all day long. Rain, lighting, thunder, the whole nine yards. There was no hope for outdoor adventure which was rather upsetting due to our plan to go white water rafting. You win some, you lose some.

Tuesday morning we worked out, packed our bags, and enjoyed a cup of coffee at a cafe near the lake. Our original plan was to hike up to the view point as a final farewell to Bled, but the clouds were not offering any view points. On the plus side, the sweetest old man offered to take our pictures and wanted to nail every angle. What a hero. An honorable mention goes out to the kind lady in the hostel who bought two Bled Cakes and only wanted one and gifted the other to Ben and I. We had turned down buying one the entire time but really wanted to try those delicious looking cream cakes. So good.

It was such a treat to have a relaxing week with Ben in such a beautiful place. Bled essentially feels like the world’s best summer camp and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Here is to stumbling across the most beautiful picture on Instagram and making that trip a reality.

Now, here’s to spending one last week soaking up every bit of London and you better believe I mean every last bit. I’ll leave you with a little story to back up my love for London. I started weeping on the train from the airport to the flat we are staying in this week (which by the way is INCREDIBLE.) Ben asked me why I was crying and I responded that I was going to miss having to take buses and trains with all our bags back from airports to central London and he reminded me that actually that is not fun and I generally say that is my least favorite aspect of our trips. But I just love getting to come back to this place we get to call home in this season of life.

a year in pictures | 2014

December 27, 2014

2014 was a year for the books. Looking back its hard to believe all of this happened in just one year. So here is a little peak at my year from start to finish.

January

2014 year started off with taking many of my friends to Sharptop Cove in Georgia for the best of weekends. Then, I headed off to Asheville for a Younglife leader weekend with the most wonderful friends and team.

February

Quite possibly my favorite day in all of college (or at least really high up there on the list) occurred. Snow hit Clemson in February and it was a day filled with sledding, hot chocolate sipping, and all of my closest friends stuck in the White House. There was also fort building, snow ice cream, games, and sock surfing down the hallway that did not end as expected (I took a tumble and knocked a diamond out of my ring…oops). Although it was just a snow day, for some reasons it sticks out more than any of the rest.

March

Spring break! A group of us headed down to Sarasota for the greatest of weeks. Goodness, I miss that place with the ocean, pies from Yoders, spikeball on the beach, and a whole lot of sun.

April

The final month at the happiest place on earth. From freshman year to senior these were and are my people. April was for soaking up every last minute with these friends.

May

May will forever hold a special place in my heart. I graduated from the happiest place on earth.

I spent an entire week in Annapolis with Ben and his family for grad week at celebrations, cookouts, dances, and garden parties. Then, I got to see Ben become a 2nd Lt. in the United States Marine Corps. I’m team Ben, and so proud.

Then came the most joyful of them all. I got to marry my best friend and it was the happiest day. I am constantly wishing I could relive every last moment. The dancing, the mountains, our family and friends from all walks of life, the flowers, the husband. Oh, it was pure bliss. I do love a good party. #happilyeverradford

June

June, the month of honeymoons, vacations, and making Annapolis our new little home. We indulged ourselves in Mexico with guacamole while we laid in the sun, swam through crystal blue water and rode around Cozumel on our scooter. Honeymooning, what a great idea. I highly recommend it.

July

Ben and I have been dating for quite some time, yet we have failed to spend a 4th of July together, until this year! Hooray! 4th of July lived up to the hype. We spent the day in our nation’s capital and the evening with friends and fireworks in Annapolis.

Annapolis in and of itself this summer was an adventure.

August

August was filled with travel. We headed to Dallas to spend the weekend with Ben’s aunt and uncle.

Then we headed down to Atlanta to celebrate my dear friend’s, Liz and Ashton, wedding! Weddings are conveniently the perfect occasions for reunions as well. Any day I get to spend with my roommates is an above average day. wattwedding-5

September

We made the move across the pond! We dropped our bags in our new home and then headed off on an incredible Italy and Greece adventure.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

We hiked the five towns of Cinque Terre and continued on to Florence, Sienna, and Rome. Oh the bread, pasta, and pizza! There are (many) days I long to be back!

cinqueterre-47

We took our car around to a few of the many beaches on the island of Crete, swooned over the crystal clear water, and Ben ate more gyros than should be possible (or allowed for that matter). crete-37

And then there was Santorini. Oh my stars this place is a good one. The white caves and colorful sunsets are some of my favorite memories. santorini-76

After arriving back to London we began to see what our new city had to offer. sundaybrunch-4

October

We spent a weekend in Cambridge visiting friends and punting along the river.

We developed our Sunday market tradition and continued to fall in love with this city. poppies-5

November

November started out with a weekend in Munich and a whole lot of time spent in the English Gardens.

A short trip home turned into a long trip home and I got to spend Thanksgiving with these wonderful people and even see most all my roommates from Clemson.

December

I returned back home and my best friend moved to London! Oh, and the Christmassing commenced!hydepark-4

Ben and I got our very own perfect little Christmas tree and a wreath too! I’m looking forward to every year finding our tree!
tree-6

We took a holiday trip and went to as many Christmas markets as we could in Prague, Salzburg, Cesky Krumlov, and Obertraun. It’s going to be hard to beat this Christmas in terms of festivities. Ben and I have seen some of the largest trees and consumed many, many Christmas treats.
ceskykrumlov-24

We had our own little Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with lessons and carols at Westminster Abbey, a feast for dinner, crepes in the morning, and a Monopoly game to end it all.

2014 has been more than kind to me. I honestly am unsure if any year can top this one. It has been a year of friendship, change, marriage, traveling, adventure, new places, and new friends. Looking back at these pictures is a reminder of how truly blessed  I am to be living out this little dream. 2014, I will forever love you. 2015, I can’t wait to see what you have to offer!

I hope your year has been the best of the bests!

Hello there.
