winter wonderland

December 7, 2014

After a trip back to the States went a little longer than expected it is so, so good to back home in London. Christmas time is my most favorite time. I’m talking like I get teary eyed walking by glistening lights, or the thought of a massive Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square and then throw in the concept of ice skating and Christmas markets and I’m practically weeping tears of joy. So I hopped off the plane yesterday morning and was determined to let the Christmassing commence! So that it did. And even better to be reunited with Ben and on top of that my best friend Hope. We made our way to Hyde Park to see the widely spoken of, Winter Wonderland, for ourselves.hydepark-2

Also I am still baffled by the concept that Hope and I live in the same city. And even more so that the city is London. After 14 years of friendship, in which the past five or so have been long distance it is crazy that we get to live this little dream together. Who would of thought?! Not us. That’s for sure. But boy am I beyond excited for these next few months of taking on London together. hydepark-4

Oh how I missed this guy! I don’t think I’m much of a fan of long distance anymore ;) Also, do take note of his Christmas-esque sweater. Christmas is growing on him. hydepark-5

Trees! Lights! Mulled wine! The whole place is filled with little vendors, treats, lights, and so many warm beverages. hydepark-6 hydepark-7

Also, here you can take your chances at ice curling. hydepark-8 hydepark-9

Here is the one ride we rode. Essentially it’s your typical carnival swings, but it takes you oh so high. You get to experience a lovely view while your eyes pour water due to the wind. hydepark-10

Blurry, but the best we got. Really glad to be back with him.

This has nothing to do with Winter Wonderland. But look at him! I do love that nephew of mine and getting to spend time at home with him!

This next week I intend to do all things Christmas. London really knows how to roll out the red carpet in terms of Christmas events. Tis the season :)

  • Just a little over a month away from getting to be back in this magical city for a few weeks and I can hardly wait!! If you have any favorite spots in the city let me know!!
  • Back to the beach with our guy, but we sure are missing the mountains!
  • Six whole days of snowboarding, aprés ski, peanut butter banana sandwiches, hot tub nights, four resorts, night skiing, a lot of queso, a few tumbles down the mountain, and the four best pals and roommates. This week was one for the books! We are four happy campers.
  • The flu struck our household this weekend, which wasn’t exactly the start to the new year we were hoping for. But, in between medicine breaks and movie watching on our makeshift bed in the living room we snuck in a few walks on the beach and sunset views over the sound.
  • I realize it’s only the second day of 2019 but this is how I’m feeling about this year. Ben and I were chatting about goals and looking at our calendar for the year and I’m just so excited for all that’s in store! I’m choosing to expect big things from 2019 👏🏼✨
  • 2018 was full of surprises, twists and turns, ups and downs. I'm learning that will be the case at the end of every single year, but it never ceases to catch me by surprise.

I lived the vanlife with @katielentile for a month, explored Vietnam for two weeks with @benwradford , spent several weekends third wheeling with some pretty incredibly couples as they said 'I do', finally got to go back to my favorite place in the world, London, for a week and trained up to Scotland for the weekend, packed up our home of two years in New Bern to move to the coast with our best friends, unexpectedly added a furry fellow to our family (and thank God we did), evacuated from a hurricane, traveled back and forth to Nashville, and soaked up a lot of time with family in Roanoke. It was a wild year filled with a lot of crazy plot twists but I am so incredibly thankful for all Ben and I learned, experienced, saw, and dreamed up this year.

On January 1 I had a "new year's resolution" to capture a second a day and I DID IT. Through this little project I learned that it is quite alright that some days, my most exciting second is that we are cruising on Halong Bay in Vietnam, and others it's just that we made dinner on a Wednesday night. Both are just as wonderful. So, enjoy a brief snippet of every single day of my 2018 and shout out to everyone who probably has no idea I captured them 😉
