A few weeks ago a couple of friends and I hopped in the car bright and early for a day trip in Philly and boy did it turn out better than we hoped for. It was so refreshing to know that a few friends who met only briefly before can road trip, explore a new city, have meaningful conversation and enjoy several cups of coffee along the way.
We headed straight to La Colombe to meet up with Kate, their social media go-to person as well as copywriter. It was such a treat (quite literally– I had that bacon gruyere biscuit) to have Kate show us a bit of the behind the scenes as well as serve as our little tour guide throughout the day. The concept of a draft latte was introduced to me, and I am forever grateful. It’s heaven sent with an almost milkshake texture. Go get yourself one immediately. You’re welcome.
We moseyed about to different coffee shops, murals, and this little guy below throughout Fishtown. I can certainly appreciate a good mural and a bush with eyes.
“Do What You Love”. Learning this lesson is a current theme for me.
We then made our way to Old Town and Race Street pier before stopping at the Painted Bride Art Center for their pretty walls.
We nearly made it to every La Colombe in the city which is quite the accomplishment.
In between coffee shops, we made sure to have a drink and snack at the Independence Beer Garden. These people know how to decorate with some greenery. Well done, beer garden, well done.
Additionally, watermelon salad for the win.
The rest of the afternoon was spent walking around, deciding which cookie and treat to buy at Reading Terminal Market, admiring the flowers in the park, and finishing up with one of the best happy hours I have been to at Double Knot.
As I said before, it was such a refreshing day. What a gift to meet new friends who enjoy traveling just as you do and equally enjoy the art of moseying about a new city. The day was filled with such great conversations, sights, and pictures. Might I add, we all met on Instagram. Who knew that funny little app can create real life friendships, real life adventures, and real life conversations.
