Our English summer has begun! It snuck up on us although I am not fully convinced it’s “summer” due to the coat I wore the other night. Regardless, here are a few snapshots from our week thus far!
We caught a train to Surrey on Saturday morning to the Epsom Derby. I was rooting for my boy, Carbon Dating, unlike the bookies who put him at 200/1 odds. He may have came in last place, but he is first place in my heart. Regardless, a lovely day at the downs.
Ben looking dapper as ever.
After the main races we strolled over to the Royal Automobile Club, courtesy of Daven for a pitcher of Pimms and a lovely view of the golf course. We ended our night at Daven’s house for a barbeque. Oh how I have missed cookouts, and backyards (gardens, if you will), and neighborhoods. It was truly a perfect day, despite the realization that there may not be such a thing as a “warm summer night.”
Sunday morning began with pancakes, as all Sundays should. After a slow morning, a bit of lounging, and lots of coffee we headed off to figure out what all the tents were in Trafalgar Square. Behold, another food festival! This time, Indonesian food was featured. After scouting out the food we picked our favorite and found a perfect spot in the Embankment Gardens.
Then it was off to church, a bit of London wandering, and an evening run in Hyde Park where Ben introduced me to the deck of cards workout. Who knew a deck of cards could be so brutal.
Tonight a picnic kind of night. After work we grabbed some dinner at Whole Foods (blessings that there is one near us in Piccadilly) and hopped on the tube to Primrose Hill. I have been wanting to make my way over to watch the sunset for awhile but there was either no sun, or too cold for my liking. Tonight was perfect though, and apparently several Londoners agreed.
Three cheers for summer in London, horse races, and picnics.
