Any weekend that Ben comes home is my absolute favorite. Here are just a few snapshots of our weekend.
Saturday morning we enjoyed pumpkin waffles, gingerbread coffee, and christmas candles. You know, mastering celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas all at once. Ben wasn’t keen for the Christmas playlist I wanted to play. But hey, I was two for three. After several refills on coffee and a little college football we finally mustered the motivation to head to the gym downstairs. I convinced Ben to do my workout essentially for validation that it indeed was a “good workout”. Success. Ben then persuaded me to join him for a quick jog along the waterfront. Although apprehensive, it was nice to daydream of summer and spring along the water.
Then it was off to see a bit of DC. We headed down near the Washington Monument before hitting up a museum.
Growing up in the DC area, I wandered in and out of several museums and Smithsonians but neither Ben or I had visited the Holocaust museum. It was so well done and such an eye-opening experience.
Although winter is quickly approaching, the weather was doing nice things and sunset is quite lovely here.
Afterwards it was either time for an afternoon nap or an afternoon pick me up. We decided upon the latter and drove over to Bayou Cafe for a few beignets and lattes. I am confident we will be returning soon, especially considering they served my coffee in a snowman mug and they have special daily mac and cheese.
We spent the rest of the evening with more football, a little reminiscing of London which resulted in a few mascara tears, googling puppies, and Facetiming with Hannah.
Sunday morning was a chilly one. We made our way to church and then to the Pretzel Bakery. The breakfast sliders were a great choice and this little gem deserves a visit for breakfast if you are in the DC area.
Another excellent weekend in the books. Here’s to a short work week for both Ben and I, meaning we get to spend almost an entire week together! Hip, hip, hooray for weeks together and the fact that turkey is on the menu this week.
